Partner & Co-Founder

Andy Tomback is one of the founders of JHP. The idea for a job training non-profit arose out of Andy’s and Scott Perlman’s volunteering at the Men’s Shelter. They saw motivated residents getting up at 5:00 am to get picked up and taken to a construction site to do menial work, i.e., pulling nails out of wood, sweeping, cleaning up debris, that required no training. They were paid minimum wage, but they had to pay for transportation, and other expenses so they netted much less than that. And they received no training. Scott and Andy believed that the residents had the ability to get better jobs if they were trained and had help getting those jobs. In 1987 they founded JHP to do that.

Andy now lives in New York City, is a lawyer, and serves on the boards of several non-profits including West Side Campaign Against Hunger (“WSCAH”), which is the City’s leading food bank, and Learning Through an Expanded Arts Program (“LEAP”). LEAP is the City’s largest provider of arts programs (both during and after school) to underserved communities. Andy was LEAP’s board’s co-chair for over a decade.
